CAREER PATH :
William Himo was born in 1963 near Paris, in a family of artists and musicians. He took to studying drawing, mainly portraits in sanguine and charcoal, at the age of 7.
At 11, he added color to his palette ( watercolour and gouache) and finally settled on oil painting as his technique of predilection. He was then noticed by worldwide-renowned Anatole Ivancenk, who encouraged him to exhibit.
Since then, his artistic evolution and career have never stopped. His creativity is intensified by a lonely personality and his sensitivity heightened when in close contact with wild and authentic nature. This is why spaces such as the forest ( surrounding his hometown of Fontainebleau near Barbizon) and seashores are most adapted to his artistic expression.
He favours oil pastels and oil painting to liberate pulsion-like emotions, as the first technique enables him to work ‘sur le vif’ ( on the spur of the moment) to represent landscapes in an impulsive but nonetheless precise way.The second one is more suited to a slower, premeditated and mastered process of creation, thus giving him the opportunity to compose , to shade and elaborate at length in his workshop.

« No-one can really define what an artist is
His work alone can reflect his sincerity
Art in itself means nothing
Feelings, emotions and suffering must appear
Through what he represents
His subject is nothing but a pretext
To liberate himself »
William HIMO
